The problem is most people don't keep their resolutions past March. They have all the best of intentions, but for whatever reasons they go back to their old ways. Here are some easy to follow steps to help create resolutions that are sure to stick. Put it On Paper You need to put your goals or resolutions in writing. Write them out on a piece of paper or in a journal. Some place your will be able to refer to them often. Remember out of sight - out of mind. Better yet use an index card and tape it to your bathroom mirror, refrigerator or car's dash board. Some place where you will see it often. Break it Down Once you have a list take each goal one at a time and break it down into tiny pieces. Let's say for example that you want to lose 60 lb. You would first need to figure out how you plan to lose the weight. Are you going to go to the gym every day or walk for 30 min. around your neighborhood? Are you going to change your eating habits? It doesn't matter what your resolution is you will need to figure out how you are going to work toward your goal daily. What will you need to do differently each day to ultimately reach your goal? The famous saying How do you eat an elephant? One bit at a time. really does say it all. Obstacles There will always be obstacles to achieving your goals. Think about the obstacles you will face and how you can overcome them. What will you do when someone offers you a delicious piece of cake and you're dieting? What about when your friends are all smoking in front of you and you are trying to quit? How about when you're best friend wants to go shopping, but you're trying to get out of debt? Plan ahead. Have your answers already prepared ahead of time, so you're not caught off guard. One at a time Most people write down their goals each year and are gung ho about achieving them. They try to take on every goal at once and lose momentum or get frustrated pretty fast. Why not try one or two at a time? Wouldn't it be better to achieve 1 or 2 of your resolutions as opposed to none because you gave up? Focus on just one or two goals at a time until they are second nature to you. After they become easy, then add another goal. Enjoy the journey Life is a journey. Don't wait until you reach all your goals to start enjoying your life. Find a way to reach your goal and enjoy doing it. If you are having fun, you are more likely to reach your goal. Plus if you don't reach your goal at least you had fun. :) This year write New Year's resolutions that you will actually keep. Break all your resolutions into smaller bite size pieces. Take it one day at a time and most importantly, create goals that you will have fun working toward. Some examples include: go ice skating, learn to knit, go camping, learn a new language, visit a new place, etc. Just step out of your comfort zone and try new things. You may like it and if not at least you can say you tried it. :) Tip of the Month Forget the gym. There are lots of commercials for gym memberships out right now, but don't fall for it. $19.99 a month for 1 year is $239.88. Not to mention the gas to get there. My suggestion is to forget the gym and work out from home. There are lots of free ways to exercise. Here are a few examples: walking, lifting weights (use cans of soup or milk jugs), calisthenics, tai chi, and yoga. Great Site http://www.howstuffworks.com/ Here's a fun site.
