Welcome!

Hope you are enjoying your summer. It's going to be a really exciting month for my family. We are planning to visit my husband's family in the mountains and my family at the beach. Lots of traveling with kids in the car.

Well since I'm a mom who wishes for my girls to be strong and confident I wrote my first article this month about "Girl Power"! Yes, I'm a closet Spice Girl fan. My second article covers what I feel is a very important gadget in every mom's toolbox. I really can't live without mine.

Enjoy and have a truly blessed July!

Dare to Be Different

Lisa is really creative, Debbie likes to wear funky socks, Mom organizes great picnics, Kayla is really pretty and Tammy is a blast to be around.

What are YOU known for???

Do you have a unique fashion sense? Are you a great cook? Or do you always find the best bargains? Well, you are probably known for different things in each of your relationships. But, no matter what you're known for, there is usually someone who wishes they had your talents.

The point is every human is given special skills, talents or gifts to a degree that is unique to each of them. "A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other...He alone decides which gift each person should have." 1 Corinthians 12: 7-11 NLT.

Each of us are like one piece of a puzzle. You may be a small piece of a huge puzzle, but you are just as important as all the others. You have your own special spot in the big finished puzzle that no one else can quite fill except you.

So, don't compare yourself to the other women in your life. Don't try to be the actresses on TV, moms at the school yard, or that lady who can eat anything without ever gaining an ounce. Though I would love to be that last lady.

Start celebrating your differences. Start by accepting yourself now -- where you are in life today. Not who you want to be. Try to be the best you--you can be!

Don't get me wrong, it is perfectly fine to want to improve yourself. Just make progress toward your goals. Be realistic and focus on one thing at a time. Start taking small deliberate steps every day.

In the words of Joyce Meyer, "Enjoy where you are--on the way to where you're going." We are all a work in progress, so enjoy the journey! Celebrate being you!

Every Mom Needs One

This fantastic machine will remind you about upcoming appointments, find your car, help find your kids, and wake you up in the morning.

What is this wonder device, you ask? It's your cellular phone.

Nowadays, cellular phones have tons of very helpful features some of which you probably haven't put to use. From calendars, appointment reminders, alarms, address book, text messenger, a camera, and of course the phone.

Obviously, you can call friends, family and work. However, you can also call a tow truck if you break down, the pizza delivery company to have food meet you at home when you're on the road, and more importantly call ahead to an appointment if you are stuck in traffic and are running late. Most important of all, you can call 911 if you have an emergency. In the news just this week, someone text messaged a relative when he was kidnapped which ultimately help save his life.

By far, the nicest feature is the camera available on some cellular phones. It allows you to take photos without having to bring your traditional, usually more expensive, camera with you everywhere.

Some of the best uses I've found are:

  • Photograph damage (or lack there of) to vehicles in a car accident. This can also show weather conditions, people involved, license plate numbers, position of vehicles, etc.

  • Take a picture of where you parked your car when visiting those huge mall parking lots. ex. Row D29 near Sears.

  • Photograph your family or group prior to entering an amusement park, crowded mall, etc. Just in case someone gets lost. This way you know what the person was wearing that day, not to mention their hair color, height, weight, etc.

  • Take a photo of your suitcase contents prior to heading to the airport. Especially with all the lost luggage lately.

  • Breaking news. Look how many people took pictures during the World Trade Center attacks. Photos helped the Police and FBI piece together the events that took place.

The really great thing about this feature is you can easily delete the photos when you don't need them any more.

Many new phones have a calendar/appointment section. Some phones will even alert you of appointments you have entered. How many times have you missed a dentist appointment or important deadline?

One feature I personally love is the alarm function. During the school year, I set one alarm for the time I pick my son up from school. I set another alarm for the time I meet my daughter at the bus stop. It's also real handy when your power goes out and your electric alarm clock isn't working.

Cell phones today have a wide variety of features and just as wide price range. Most of us don't need the latest, most expensive phone out there. Just find one that has all the features that are important to you. As a mom of little kids, this device helps me tremendously and I know it will help you also.
