Planting in the Fall is the Perfect Time Written by: Shirley McNeal Start now in the fall of the year with planting and have an early start on your spring flower garden. Some plants can be planted during this time of the year, which will bring flowers and foliage for next season. During the autumn months, you can also take your perennials, such as hostas and shasta daisies, cut them back and divide them. By doing this now you will have a greater number of plants in the spring and it will not cause harm to your plants to split them and replant while the ground is cold and damp. When springtime comes you will have twice as many healthy plants to fill your flower garden. Autumn is the best time to plant bulbs in your flower garden. Prepare the soil by adding the right amount of fertilizer before planting. Always follow the directions for the depth of bulbs and the placement before planting. After planting make sure your bulbs are watered very well. Bulbs should be planted in the fall of the year and lay dormant during the winter for flowers to bloom properly in the spring. Another flower with beautiful colorful blooms are mums. Mums can be used to decorate your home or office during the fall of the year, and then you can plant them in your flower garden. Your mums will be fine through the winter months and come next summer they will bloom again and provide beauty late into the season. Mums will accent your flower garden season after season. Starting now in the fall of the year is the perfect time to plant in order for your spring flower garden to be enjoyed by all.
